I've worked in many aspects of English Language
Teaching for over 25 years as a teacher, a Director of Studies, in teacher
training, as a materials writer/developer and course book author. I have also
been an examiner for Cambridge ESOL, Pitman Examinations, LCCI and ARELS.
I am particularly interested in reading skills development, computer assisted
and online learning resources and self-access learning. I was responsible
for establishing a self-access listening centre and an independent self-access
reading centre within a large language school.
Latterly, I've worked as one of the partners in ELB Brighton, a specialist
ELT book supplier to schools, colleges, universities, teachers, students and
bookshops around the world. This has enabled me to undertake more freelance
writing and publishing projects and develop personal interests & skills.
Most of the recent writing projects I've been involved in have been undertaken
with a long-standing co-author - Alison Savage. Alison is Deputy Director
of the Educational Liaison Centre at the University of Surrey. We are currently
working on an ESOL proposal provisionally called Framework for English which
we are discussing with a number of potential publishers.
I am particularly interested in computers in education and computer applications.
I am a proficient user of Macintosh computers - iBookPro, iMac, OSX and Mac
applications, Pages, Word, Excel, Dreamweaver, Rapidweaver, QuarkXpress etc.
